The road not taken

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I -
I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference.


This poem I have learnt during my college years as my elective. Then, when I started my teaching career long donkey years ago, this is part of the syllibus needed to be covered.

But, it reflects me more than a piece of nicely written words. As for me I took also 'the grassy and wanted wear'. I enjoy every momment of it, yet still there are ups and downs. As for now, it is down. I wonder, did I make a wrong choice at the divergence? If I took the normal road, would the thing that I wanted will be achieved? I am miserable, stuck in this misery. Still I believe that Frost is right, "I shall be telling this with a sigh, Somewhere ages and ages hence:,Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - , I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference". Even now, it is me who made me. Entonces, Cogito Ergo Sum.

I am about to make one of the most important decision in life.. I have doubts at times.. I have had other options too, better ones before.. but I don't have regrets in life.. and I don't want too.. You should not too dear..

I believe that everything that had occurred in the past is what Allah has planned for me intentionally to open my eyes.. and to cherish life even more.. Alhamdulillah.. I choose the one less travelled though.. without regrets..

Thanks Lin. I am thinking more or less the same. People who regret are actually coward, they do not take responsibility of their own decision. I know you are too good to be one of them.
